Store Loves: Charlie Boutique

I first stumbled upon Charlie via my go-to-fashion-friend Dave. Last year, I was in a need for a dress for my friend's wedding and Dave suggested Charlie. And long and behold, I purchased a dress on my first time stepping into the store, a Yumi blush pink dress. I absolutely love it. Now, every time I go to Queen West, it is a must stop-over. Their recent tweets and posts have gotten me excited for the Spring/Summer and though the snow is continuously accumulating... I am counting down the days for some fun in the sun. They are getting new shipment every week and introducing new brands. I'm so excited to drop by this weekend, though my bank account will be sad. I welcome some floral and bold prints with a pop of colours!

'This... stuff'? Oh. Okay. I see. You think this has nothing to do with you. You go to your closet and you select... I don't know... that lumpy blue sweater, for instance because you're trying to tell the world that you take yourself too seriously to care about what you put on your back. But what you don't know is that that sweater is not just blue, it's not turquoise. It's not lapis. It's actually cerulean. And you're also blithely unaware of the fact that in 2002, Oscar de la Renta did a collection of cerulean gowns. And then I think it was Yves Saint Laurent... wasn't it who showed cerulean military jackets? I think we need a jacket here. And then cerulean quickly showed up in the collections of eight different designers. And then it, uh, filtered down through the department stores and then trickled on down into some tragic Casual Corner where you, no doubt, fished it out of some clearance bin. However, that blue represents millions of dollars and countless jobs and it's sort of comical how you think that you've made a choice that exempts you from the fashion industry when, in fact, you're wearing the sweater that was selected for you by the people in this room from a pile of stuff.

I'm scrambling for outfits I can wear to the New Year's Eve party with a very strict dress colour code of Pink + Black. And all I can think of is this Yumi dress I got awhile back from Charlie's Boutique for my friend's wedding. I say it should suffice with the theme - I'll be pairing it with my black blazer from Bicyclette and accessorise it with all things black: jewelry, hoisery and my JC wedges. Done and done... unless... a hot magenta dress magically appears from now until Saturday. What will you be wearing during the countdown to a New Year?

And so my cape obsession continues on... I dropped by Anthropologie Yorkville after S told me that they still had several of the This & That Cape. Isn't this a beauty? Part cape, part bolero. And it was 50% off from the sale price. So I just had to get it. This makes it cape #3 in as many weeks. I can't wait to pair this with my wide-leg trousers.

I've added another cape into my collection. I spotted this cape from Anthropologie several months ago, I tried it on and instantly loved it but not the price tag. So I put it back onto the hanger. Fast-forward to a month ago... I saw it again and this time on sale. I tried it again and thought to myself... should I? Nah. So I put it back to the hanger. Fast-forward to tonight, meeting with the girls at Shops at Don Mills, I popped my head because Anthro was having a sale - S pointed out the green cape - it was ONLY $78 PLUS 30%. I tried it on... and bought it.

A shopping date with D at Queen St. West was almost deemed sad and pathetic because we were still empty-handed after going in & out to several of our fave boutiques. Then we walked in Love of Mine (my go-to-jewelry-store) and found out that Toronto-based designer, Eliza Kozurno was doing a trunk show... and long and behold I fell in love. I love all of her pieces so much so I couldn't decide and walked away with 2 pairs of earrings with D & V's words of shopping wisdom.

So I was first introduced to Rebecca Minkoff last summer, when S decided to sell the Nikki Mustard Croc because she had that same colour in another style! Then came Christmas, I bought my 'Je t'aime' black pouch then S gave me a "Un, deux, trois" purple pouch for Christmas! Then just a couple of months ago... I got my 4th RM: the Mini Black MAC with the gold hardware. I completely adore it. Now contemplating... on what my next RM buy will be. Been eyeing on the MAM - just waiting for the right colour to entice me.

DIY: Elastic Headband

I've been in such a DIY mood... it's been crazy. So after a trip to the local fabric store I finally sewed a couple of headbands from the trim I bought. After a failed first attempt... I got my sewing mojo and successfully sewed 4 sets of headbands. I'm still on a hunt for the sequence lace trim. So I can make some more. I styled my hair with the short chignon hair that the Beauty Department showed. It's a very bohemian look that I much adore. Now get your sewing kit ready and sew away.

I just couldn't stop buying shoes after shoes... after 6months away... I came back to with 10 new pairs ranging from heels to wedges to flats to sandals. Now with my parents in Asia... it's time to stock up with a new collection. Re-introducing myself with the Asia brands... my cousin mentions to me that the Singaporean shoe brand, Pedro has opened a store in Manila. So I quickly went on to browse their online catalogue. With the month of October almost coming to a close... Christmas is around the corner, suffice to say the malls are going to be packed with people rushing to cross off all the names on their Christmas list. So, as requested by S... here goes my wish list. It ranges from reasonable to over-the-top-maybe-in-the-next-lifetime-but-wouldn't-hurt-to-try-anyways prices.

I've been in love with these Tokyo Dreamer Straps... ever since I saw them - but I can never decide which colours I like more... blue or coral.
Not that I really need it but these Body Chains are HOT. Completely love them.
What girl doesn't love to have more hats to keep warm in the Toronto winters. I am loving this slouchy Penelope hat from CM. 100% Cashmere.
For the MacBook I'll be getting soon... (I would have put that as part of my wish list... but who am I kidding.)
Ever since I saw this online and then trying it on several times... I am still in love with the This & That Cape.
This would look so nice next to my Tiffany's toggle bracelet... oh the beloved Hermes H bracelet.

How befitting posing in front of my diploma from York U, when I get a comment from work that I dressed like an art student. It was a chilly day today. So I decided to throw on my fur vest with my checkered shirt, jeans and finally took out my Uggs. Yes. I wear Uggs. They are so comfy. Don't hate. I got so many compliments on my glasses. I found these when I was in Asia last year. I normally don't wear glasses but today my contacts was giving me problems. And that summed up my outfit. I love the no dress code at work. I just had to... pretty much out of spontaneity I decided to get a haircut last Saturday at Brennan Demelo (Adelaide & Spadina) and absolutely love it! Thanks D for the rec. I especially loved the stylist, Shauna! She's actually the first stylist I've seen that played around with the hair for a bit before doing any cutting and she gave a couple of options!

Now... back to the original subject! Why can't I replicate the style she did for me! She was giving me tips & it seemed easier enough! Do you guys have problems with repeating those simple steps your stylist gives you?

Who knew a quick browse through Pacific Mall, a couple of years ago, would lead me to one of my favourite scarves I own and the fact that it was ridiculously cheap is a bonus! What drew me to this scarf was the bold contrasting colours of the reds, blues, greens and yellows - and with the addition of this scarf it just makes any outfit look more vibrant and interesting. Today, I paired the scarf with a wool cardigan from Anthropologie, and a Forever21 buttoned down white blouse.

The fall crisp weather is here and what better way to bring out the sweaters and scarves. I dropped by Bicyclette, a cute Queen Street West boutique, a couple of days ago and found the most comfiest gray knitted wool sweater! I matched it with the Michael Kors 'Wild at Heart' scarf from Holt's and paired it with black leggings and knee-high black boots. A Perfect fall outfit.

The days are getting shorter. The temperature is slowly dropping. There are less sunny days. So it would be normal to just go back into the monochromatic wardrobes because who are we kidding... it's cold and dreary. BUT.... as seen on the runway... it's all about being bold. The colours of summer is carrying into the fall and then winter. It won't be a sea of blacks and whites and betweens instead splashes of primary colours should be spotted. And I love it. I'm not saying to go all out... but an accessory or 2 would just brighten your outfit and it really will make you happier.

A perfect way to make a winter wardrobe (esp. with a black coat, that everyone has) is a nice bold coloured purse. I used to be all about black bags because it goes with everything. But black is just so bluh. Why not go with a bright fuschia purse? Or a royal blue tote?

And for some reason I've become a social media junkie... several blogs I'm managing intended for the different interests of mine. So here goes the fashion blog...
